London-Paris Telephone system

It was the first cross-Channel telephone cable and the second cable on this route, because the first one was the 1851 Dover - Calais telegraph cable. This cable was manufactured by Siemens brothers, crossed the English Channel from St Margarets Bay, (Dover) England, to Sangatte (Calais) France.

This system enabled telephone conversation between specially equipped booths in London and Paris.
The London - Paris telephone service was inaugurated in April of 1891 and was controlled and worked by the Central Telegraph Office in London.

Charles Bright in his book, "Submarine Thelegraphs", gave a detailed description of telegraphs and telephones cable's construction. This book was a sort of guide for many engineers all over the world and now this work remained an important resource on the history o telecommunication and electrical engineering.
